Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. is a trusted leader in serving families in their time of need with compassion, dignity, and professionalism. We are seeking a dedicated Licensed Funeral Director/ Mortician or Apprentice to join our Woodbine team representing the Going Home brand. This role is ideal for a caring professional who is committed to helping families honor their loved ones with respect and grace.
An LFD reports to the Woodbine Location Manager and leads support staff. They provide customer service in all areas of helping client families navigate the process of final disposition following the loss of a loved one. They strive to help families through this difficult time by providing exemplary personalized service as the primary point of contact throughout the entire process from pre-death to final disposition and beyond. The LFD implements and executes on choices made by the families regarding the funeral/memorial service, final disposition of the body, and bureaucratic responsibilities. The LFD is ultimately responsible for ensuring the client family’s expectations are met or exceeded in all regards.
LFDs are accountable for servicing families in a professional and timely manner. Respectful service, attention to detail, and sensitivity to families’ needs are essential for maintaining a positive relationship with families. The ability to lead and participate in teams that respect each other and work effectively is essential.
The LFD duties must be performed in accordance with company policies and values, legal regulations, and the NFDA’s Code of Professional Conduct.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and direct funeral and memorial services in accordance with family wishes and legal requirements.
- Prepare the deceased through washing, dressing, cosmetizing, casketing, and restorative services or embalming when necessary.
- Guide families through the funeral planning process with empathy and clarity.
- Manage all aspects of documentation, including death certificates, permits, and authorizations.
- Oversee transportation, service setups, and final disposition logistics.
- Maintain strict adherence to legal, health, safety, and ethical standards.
- Participate in first calls and transfers with professionalism and care.
- Maintain funeral home facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
- Collaborate with colleagues, vendors, and clergy to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Uphold Sagel Bloomfield’s high standards of compassionate service and community involvement and represent the Going Home brand.
Qualifications:
- Valid Maryland Funeral Director and Morticians license (or ability to obtain in Maryland).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- High level of compassion, empathy, and emotional resilience.
- Ability to manage multiple services and tasks under time-sensitive conditions.
- Physically able to lift, carry, or transport up to 50-150 lbs safely.
- Proficiency with general office technology
