The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.
This sworn position enforces the rules and regulations of the Department's 13 health regulatory boards as well as all associated Virginia statutes and federal laws in order to safeguard the lives, health, and safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth. Principal duties include independently inspecting pharmacy, veterinary, funeral and dentistry facilities and other entities regulated by DHP. Additional duties include consulting on investigations and/or independently investigating a variety of complaints of alleged violations against health care practitioners licensed, certified, or registered by the Department, and by submitting thorough inspection and/or investigative reports.

Region I (NOVA) Region I, District 1 Counties of Clarke, Frederick, Greene, Madison, Page, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren; and the independent cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester. Region I, District 2 Counties of Culpeper, Fauquier; King George, Orange, Spotsylvania, and Stafford; and the independent city of Fredericksburg. Region I, District 3 Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William; and the independent cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, and Manassas.
Region III (TIDEWATER) Region III, District 4 Counties of Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, Richmond and Westmoreland
Region IV (SOUTHWEST) Region IV, District 1b

Minimum Qualifications
Recent, progressive experience conducting inspections or investigations.
Comprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities related to inspection and/or investigative techniques, to include interviewing, data collection and analysis of complex records and reports.
Considerable, demonstrated ability to:
- interpret and apply laws and regulations
- effectively and independently organize and manage time and assignments
- compose clear, comprehensive, and concise inspection reports
- communicate effectively both orally and in writing with impartiality, objectivity, and confidentiality
- work effectively with and through others as a member of a team with considerable, effective interpersonal skills and self-direction.
Skill in the use of a personal computer with standard office software for report writing, information exchange, on-line research, and database management (to include electronic filing and queries).
Must be able to travel, including some overnight travel, to areas within the region in an efficient time frame based upon typical travel times and sensitivity of assignment; and to use a privately-owned vehicle when necessary.
Must be willing to perform mobile work and to maintain a remote office, with high speed Internet access, within assigned district(s) or within a 30-mile radius of district border(s) as a condition of employment.

Additional Considerations
Experience working in regulatory compliance or as a law enforcement professional.
Current, formal work experience independently conducting various types of healthcare investigations, including but not limited to fraud; risk management; quality assurance; background checks; human resource; or criminal, civil and/or regulatory investigations.
A working knowledge of health care/medical terminology in order to interpret health care records and communicate with health care professionals, and of federal or state health care laws and regulations.
Prior experience working with administrative law.
