Position Qualifications:
- Performs and documents Quality Control as assigned. Ensures that the morgue refrigerator temperatures are taken and then supervisor/director notified of problems.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating and troubleshooting equipment.
- Verifies that remains are tagged, wrapped and stored appropriately, notifying the supervisor of when problems are found.
- Documents release of remains to funeral homes or medical examiner.
- Communicates delays with nursing office and pathology about autopsy procedures.
- Prepares body for post mortem procedure. Ensures that patient remains are stored appropriately post-mortem to minimize body fluid spills.
- Ensures that surgical specimens are maintained for appropriate period of time and in an organized manner.
- Photographs / documents implants per department protocol.
- Performs biophotography of remains as needed.
- Utilizes special precautions in high-risk infectious disease cases.
- Assists in training new residents or staff as assigned.
- Maintain minimum inventory of reagents / supplies.
- Cleans / decontaminates workstation and equipment per department infection control protocol
- Follow department protocol with regards to safe disposal of chemicals and bio-hazardous waste.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 years experience with autopsy assistance, medical examiner or mortuary
